i've been making a few e-books recently of some books that i found useful in my research since leaving the jw's.
some of the titles have been mentioned by others as being of interest to them too so i thought i would give you guys the heads up.. some of the articles can be found in rough form on the internet but it's much easier to read as an e-book and you can place bookmarks and annotations in them too.

Satanus sent me a link for a little tool that allows you to extract the .lit files to their constituent parts if you so wished for compiling into a different format maybe.

did anybody see the new hitchhiker's guide movie yet?
i went this weekend.. wow, what a disappointment.
it didn't "suck", exactly, but it wasn't what it could have been.
I'm off to see the film this weekend but from what's been said I don't think I'll enjoy it much. Also I've read the book a couple of times and thought it was an ok escapist read but not a classic in any sense. IMO the humour is mediocre, the satire too obvious and for such a short book there's more than it's fair share of dull points. I read some of the sequels and I couldn't take to those either.
The only saving grace was that other attempts at making science fiction funny like Red Dwarf and Isaac Asimov's humorous short stories were infinitely worse.
i certainly have had my share of jw stupidity for the day ... and of my family's stupidity today.
two things happened ... both completely unrelated.
as a little background, i "faded" from the witnesses almost five years ago.
It's my hunch that what your mum said was just a misunderstanding. When you said you wouldn't go to the KH service she maybe thought that you didn't want to see any JW's at all and that's why she suggested visiting on the friday with other non-JW friends of the family. I don't think it's worth falling out over.
My mother said something similar when my grandad died and they were having a memorial at the KH. She asked if I was going to attend or if I didn't want to bother and just go to the crematorium and pay my respects (not even sure how that would work). She asked it in a way that said she thought I had made up my mind not to go and that it didn't really matter to the family anyway. I did go of course and everything was fine in the end. It was just a misunderstanding in that my mother thought that I didn't want to see or speak to any JW's. She was extending the ludicrous JW rule of shunning on behalf of me against them even though I had no personal grievance with anyone and I wasn't even DA'd or DF'd.
Anyway I'm sure everything will turn out ok.
